Workin' All Summer Just Tryin' To Earn A Dollar

I put down the phone and turn to find Amber watching me.
"You sure you wanna do that?" she lifted her chin at the phone. "You might have doubled your money."
"I'm sure. There's a way to play it, sweetie. Leave that shit to me. Are we all packed?"
Now that I have made enough money to cover the bills for a few weeks, we are going to make the most of the high summer. The house has been cleaned and mostly closed up, and now we are lighting out for the deepest part of the Big Woods once again. This time, however, Paula is coming along, and between us we have prepared for even the most unlikely scenarios. The first vehicle to leave was a full ton-sized pickup groaning with a full load of gear. The cab was so packed that there was barely room for the driver.
We're taking the trucks all the way to the campsite this time, no horses, and instead of tents there will be 'cabins' for everyone: four two room structures twenty feet by twenty feet, one big bunkhouse and an actual cabin set right at the edge of the lake. Amber has sworn to finally give back my camera, so there should be pictures.
It was this evening as I was running through my checklist one last time that Amber called me to the television. I never watch TV, and so was mildly surprised to find her watching the news.
"Isn't that him?"
We both watched someone familiar doing the perp walk, a deputy holding his crooked elbow to guide him.
"Isn't that him? The guy who called you?" Amber is certainly persistent.
"One more reason to get outta Dodge, sweetie," I told her lightly, but I'm not really worried. I know trouble when I see it.
"But you didn't do it. He can't say anything about you because..." she watched me, and her eyes gradually narrowed. "How did you know?"
"I didn't." And I didn't. I just knew trouble when I saw it, and declined to dance.
Now I am heading for the Big Woods, so posting may be sparse. Enjoy the high green lazy days of summer, all.
